Here is a brand-new album of Christmas piano improvisations, Half-Spent Was The Night, which I recorded this week. It started as a small side project and quickly became something that I thought other people might enjoy as well. I improvised solo piano arrangements of fifteen traditional Christmas hymns and carols based on requests from several of my online friends.
You can listen to the album for free online, or download the tracks at a price of your choice. Visit this link to my MP3 store, or listen to some sample tracks in the player in this post.
Program Notes:
The birth of Christ is about light shining in the darkness. These improvisations on traditional Christmas hymns and carols, as requested by my friends, were recorded late at night, sometimes contemplative, sometimes playful, sometimes quiet, sometimes sad. As improvisations they are spontaneous and transient, reflecting how I felt they should be in the moment.
