Lots of stuff is happening just since last week! Here’s some more news and updates for you:
My orchestration is finished, and the folks down at Moody seem to like it. You may recall from my previous post–if you read past the excitement of “Mick McGuire”– that it’s a hymn written by a student at MBI and orchestrated by me for Moody’s “Symphonic Band.” (Kind of like an orchestra but with fewer double reeds and lots more trumpets.) They’re going to be playing it as part of the festivities surrounding Founder’s Week (February 1-5).
So here’s the more or less official word: if you listen to Moody radio, or if you’re going to be in town that day, you can hear it during the sessions on Monday and Friday evening (that’s the 1st and the 5th). They’ll certainly give more credit to the composer of the hymn, and quite rightly, but if you hear any unexpected flourishes with trumpets or snare drums, that was probably my bit. I’ll try to get an audio recording to put up here as well for you.
Carrie has a gig! Monday, February 8 at 8:00pm, live at Joe’s Coffee Shop (on the campus of Moody– we get there a lot). I’ll be joining on the piano, with the fantastic Stephen Lynerd on percussion. Here’s the event on Facebook for more details. Visit carriepaz.com for more information about her amazing music. Hope to see you there!
If you know of a venue that you would like to see Carrie perform in, drop us a line and let us know.
- Just for fun, apropos of nothing: Theologian Fred Sanders talks in his sleep. His wife diligently transcribed his profound musings, and he’s chosen this moment to share it with the world. I’m not sure whether they’re the funniest thing I’ve read all week or a new foray into post-post-postmodern theological profundity. Here’s the first of four posts: How Long Will Ye Linger Between Two Cabinets? One of my favorite moments, from post #3:
Water balloons
It’s too difficult
[what’s too difficult?]
You’ll laugh
[no I won’t]
They’re Paul Tillich’s water balloons.
[what’s he going to do with them?]
Explain them
[what’s he going to say?]
“Being participates in becoming like a light beam in a hallway.”
[what else?]
“Soak ‘em, boys!”
[what else?]
You’ve heard too much already.
Thanks as always for your support and encouragement. Maybe I’ll even have time to do some more in-depth writing here soon.
