Those who are interested in my writing may be interested in this: The book is entitled With these Hands: Inspiring a Call to Stewardship for God’s Creation. It’s part of this year’s Vacation Bible School curriculum published by UMI, where I work as a copyeditor. This particular volume is directed toward adult learners; it’s part of a larger series for all ages.
I contributed a chapter (number 6) based on Daniel 1 and the importance of a healthy attitude toward food. It was quite fun to research and write, and, being me, I managed to find a couple of unusual angles on the subject. The perils of food-based legalism, agriculture and social injustice, and Aquinas’s definition of gluttony all got in there. (Did you really think I was just going to tell you to eat more greens?) Naturally I’m just one writer among many; I’m sure you’ll like all the others as well.
Here’s a link with more information and ordering details.
Of course, there are plenty of other reasons to be interested in this aside from just my chapter; if you’re involved in planning a church’s VBS, it would certainly be worth your time to check out our full 2010 product line entitled Step Up and Go Green for Jesus!
In other news and updates:
- Carrie started a new blog. She likes it when people comment. That’s a hint.
- Mr. Pond is in rare form.
- There’s a concert coming up in April. Details to follow (it deserves its own post, and it’s still in the works).
- Neil Gaiman is writing an episode of Doctor Who. Just seeing if you were paying attention.
Thanks as always for reading and supporting whatever it is I’m supposed to be doing!
[Disclaimer / Full Disclosure / FTC stuff: Yes, I work for the company that published the book above. No, they didn't ask me to write this post. The only kickback I'm getting from this blurb is that people might read a chapter I wrote, and our company might sell a book or two, which might help them give me my usual paycheck, which I appreciate. So it goes.]

Congratulations to Literary Friends!
@ericpazdziora
Well, congratulations!
And with any luck, I hope to make that form a little less rare…
Hmmm…I did a search on UMI and came up with all KINDS of interesting things! So…what is UMI?
I never heard of VBS curriculum for adults. It sounds like an interesting book and your subject sounds interesting, too.
Ours is http://www.urbanministries.com/ . It’s fairly well-known inside the African American church community, but rather less so elsewhere. It was a fun subject to write. There are some similar projects headed to press soon, but I’ll have more details on those when they’re out.
Thank you! I will check that site out.
A “healthy attitude” toward food is important. To burden yourself with excess consumption does no good to yourself or the environment.
